NLI JUDGES
Quality judging makes or breaks an event. We are looking for experienced and committed judges. We have big plans for improving the long term picture of what "Judging" means and the first steps involves getting involved with us and attending Judge Training meetings. The ONLY way to become a good or better judge is by DOING it in competition. Much like the athletes are gaining competition experience, Judges are also gaining competition experience.

Before every event we provide all the information necessary to prepare you for the day. We have scheduled meetings to go over movements and discuss issues prior to the day of competition so you come into the day with a sense of comfort.
In time we want a fleet of expert judges geared out in NLI apparel who have lots of experience and have attended the Judge Training events. The goal is to have everyone on an equal playing field regarding what is ACCEPTABLE and what is UNACCEPTABLE.
Here is a quick study outline of the points of performance every judge should be familiar with:
Enjoy yourself and have fun
- Introduce yourself to the athlete. Find out what gym they train at.
- Your goal is to help facilitate a great experience for them. They are already nervous and unsure (especially D3).
- Let them know you are on their side
- You get to witness people giving their all. They are showing you who they are.
Brief the workouts
- Before each heat go over the movements and the standards we expect.
- Let your athlete know we will uphold these standards strictly.
- They get ONE warning and then they will receive “no rep” signal (2 hands)
- Make sure your athlete is aware of all that is required.
- They may demo the movement for you if they are unsure of what is acceptable
Position yourself
- Very important to be in the proper position to see full range of movement.
- This may mean changing levels as the athlete squats or being able to see clock as the athlete is finishing at the end of event
- Being able to make eye contact with athlete is very important
Communication
- Be confident in your judgements. It is your call and we will back up your decision.
- Be clear with your commands.
- Be loud so your athlete can hear the rep or no rep signal.
- Count out loud for your athlete.
Scorecard process
- Each workout check in area will have a stack of blank scorecards. The judge will get a blank scorecard for each athlete before the start of the heat
- Fill in athlete # and name and judge #/ Name
- Record time/ weight/ results on scorecard of the event
- Have athlete sign scorecard to verify score
- Give copy to athlete and turn original in to scorecard runner
- If there is a dispute over score. Do not have athlete sign and locate head judge to explain
